The Other One

Apparently my husband called his mother's home this evening. Whereupon he had the pleasure of speaking with our nieces and nephews. The youngest, who is almost 4 yrs old, answered the phone.

Rather than saying "Hello" he began the conversation with "Who are you?". My husband replied "This is your uncle." Our nephew then asked "Where is the other one?" My husband thought that he was speaking to someone in his physical presence and didn't think to reply.

Once my mother-in-law got on the phone with her son, she asked him why he didn't answer his nephew's question. My dear hubby asked his mother what she was referencing. She explained to him that our nephew couldn't remember my name and regards me as "the other one" in context to my husband.

I'm just happy that regardless of my name or even the casual indifference he shows to me, he does recognize that we're ONE unit.
