Conversations with Kate: Definition of a Holiday

Me: (trying to recall where I left my glasses): What numbers are on the clock?
Kate: 6...8....i don't know.
Me: What numbers do you see?
Kate: 6...1...9.......wait it's different.
Me: What's different? (Finally close enough to squint) Oh, it's 6:20. See that's a 6, and after the two dots (:)  are the minutes, 20. It's 6:20. It's 6 hours and 20 minutes.

Kate: Where's the lights?
Me: What lights?
Kate: Where's the lights?
Me: What lights?
Kate: We're lights.
Me: Are you asking if we're late?
Kate: Yes, we're late?

Me: No baby, we're not late. Today is a holiday. Do you know what that means?
Kate: No, what's that mean?
Me: A holiday is when Mommy & Daddy don't have to go to work and you don't have to go to school.
Kate: Yeaaahhhhhh!!! Holiday!!!! I don't have to go to school, NEVER EVER.

Me: No baby, you have to go to school on Monday. (Trying to soften the blow) Today is a holiday. Yesterday was a holiday too, that's why you didn't have to go to swimming class. Tomorrow is Saturday, we do fun stuff together. And Sunday we go to church. But on Monday you have to go to school and Mommy & Daddy have to go to work.
Kate: (still sad, but accepting) Oh, okay.
